Mazda unveiled the CX-30. Which...should be about the size of house given the current naming structure, but actually slots in between the CX-3 and CX-5. That’s not confusing.
Hybrid goodies, lots of tech and a mazda3 platform. Standard drill. What does everyone think? I actually don’t like the looks as much as the CX-3 or CX-5

But why?
![]() 03/05/2019 at 08:56 |

It looks like a cheap CX-5 with more cladding

I kinda like that dashboard. The plastic cladding on the exterior gives me some first-gen Allroad or VehiCROSS vibes though.

bc you can’t get this much plastic on the side of your CX3 or CX5 bro

I have no idea. For the people who the CX-3 is too small but CX-5 is too big? Is it really that big of a problem people?

I thought the CX-3 was based off of the Mazda 2?
![]() 03/05/2019 at 09:02 |

It is. The CX-30 is based off the 3

Way too much plastic cladding
![]() 03/05/2019 at 09:04 |

Because today's requirements for running a car company mean you must have at least 4 SUVs/crossovers in your lineup that look damn near the same and one must have about 60% body cladding minimum

I so not understand this at all. The gap between the CX-3 and the CX-5 is positively tiny. The CX-5 is only barely a mid-sized crossover as it is. They are pretty darn small already.

I mean, BMW sees fit to make an X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, X6, and X7.

Just another option I guess? More product means more sales. Named CX-30 probably because the Japanese word for 4 sounds a lot like theor word for "death" iirc?

Way to alienate all the high-paying CX9 owners. Now their CUVs are 21 less CX’s than this.

The CX-5 is tighter than the Golf inside, except for the rear storage area. I can’t see how it would be too big for anyone.

That’d be dope. CX-Death.

Mazda 3 Allroad? Mazda 3 Allroad.

But.... why?!?

What about CX-4?
CX-3.5?
CX-Tree?
CX-Knight-In-Shiny-Plastic-Armor?

Resident Mazda fanbo y’s thoughts:
1. I like the looks of it.
2. I hate the name. Makes zero sense. CX-3, CX-30, CX-5, CX-9. What?
3. It won’t sell well.

As a current CX-5 owner and future CX-9 owner , this comment is my favorite.

Maybe this is the replacement for the CX-3, but they’ll sell both for a while? No idea.

We just switched from a 5 to a 9. It’s w orth it.

I d on’t get this one at all. I think they should have a made a midsizer between the cx5 and 9 to compete vs. something like Edg e Murano Santa Fe etc.

Weird name. It looks like..um a Mazda, so there’s that. Nothing ground breaking, which is fine, just not too exciting. Idk, if anything I could see this replacing the CX-3 as it’s pretty tight even for it’s segment.

Maybe. Or maybe it’s really just a trim package on the the CX-3?
![]() 03/05/2019 at 11:08 |

Really? What year CX-9? I’m only looking at the newer models (2016+).

Different chassis.

Alrighty then.

We got a ‘19 GT trim, so far I like it more in every way except the sunroof. The size is shared with the whole Mazda line so it doesn’t make any sense because it looks tiny compared to the CX-5 . That is my only complaint though.

How’s the cargo capacity and the third row? Those seem to be the only dings the 9 gets in reviews.

We haven't had anyone in the 3rd row but with it down it's much larger. We got the 9 so we can tow things. The install of the hitch and 7point connector was easy as well.
